Unlike slip-on or socket-weld flanges, weld neck flanges are engineered specifically to endure severe bending, vibration, and thermal shock.
Tapered Hub Design
The long tapered hub gradually transitions the thickness of the flange down to the wall thickness of the pipe. This drastically reduces stress concentration at the base of the flange, shifting the load to the pipe wall.
Radiography Ready
Because the flange is joined to the pipe using a single full-penetration V-bevel butt weld, the joint can easily be inspected using 100% X-ray radiography, an essential requirement for high-hazard chemical lines.
Smooth Internal Flow
The bore of the flange is precisely machined to match the inner diameter (ID) of the connecting pipe. This creates a seamless transition that minimizes turbulence, erosion, and pressure drop.
