Socket Weld Flanges

Nickel Alloy Socket Weld Flanges

When assembling small-diameter, high-pressure piping systems where internal welding is impractical, Socket Weld Flanges (SWRF / SWRTJ) provide a highly reliable solution. 28Nickel manufactures precision-forged nickel alloy socket weld flanges designed to deliver robust structural strength and leak-proof performance in critical chemical instrumentation, hydraulic lines, and offshore processing networks.

Available Alloy Grades for Socket Weld Flanges

Small-bore piping is often highly susceptible to blockage and localized corrosion. We supply socket weld flanges forged from the industry's most advanced superalloys, ensuring your instrumentation and fluid transport lines remain clear and resilient against severe chemical attack and high temperatures.

Engineering Profile of Socket Weld Flanges

The socket weld design offers unique assembly advantages for small-bore piping, eliminating internal weld spatter while providing fatigue strength greater than that of slip-on flanges.

🔍

Recessed Socket Design

The flange features a counter-bore (socket) that the pipe drops into. This recess provides perfect self-alignment, making it incredibly fast and easy for pipefitters to position and tack-weld the joint.

Clean Internal Bore

Because the flange is secured with a single continuous fillet weld on the outside, there is zero risk of weld spatter entering the pipe. This is critical for small hydraulic and instrumentation lines where debris could cause catastrophic blockages.

📏

Small Bore Optimization

Socket weld flanges are specifically designed for small-diameter pipes, typically NPS 2" (DN 50) and smaller. They offer significantly higher static strength and fatigue life compared to standard slip-on flanges in these sizes.

⚠️

Expansion Gap Consideration

During installation, a 1/16" (1.6mm) gap must be left between the pipe end and the bottom of the socket to prevent weld cracking from thermal expansion. Note: This gap can create a crevice, so it is not recommended for highly corrosive, stagnant media where crevice corrosion is a major concern.

Standard Specifications & Dimensions
Specification Category Details & Standards
Dimensional Standards ASME / ANSI B16.5
Common Pressure Classes 150#, 300#, 600#, 900#, 1500# (Not typically used for 2500#)
Size Range Typically 1/2" NB to 2" NB (Larger sizes generally utilize Weld Neck flanges).
Bore / Pipe Schedule Crucial: The bore of a socket weld flange must match the Inner Diameter (ID) of the connecting pipe (e.g., Sch 40, Sch 80) to ensure a smooth fluid transition.
Flange Facing Raised Face (SWRF), Flat Face (SWFF), Ring Type Joint (SWRTJ)
