Hastelloy® C-22
Hastelloy C-22 is a versatile nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with better overall corrosion resistance than other Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, including C-276. It provides superior protection against pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in stagnant or reducing environments.
- Common Forms: Polished Sheet, Plate, Tube, Bar, Wire.
- Key Feature: Better resistance to oxidizing chemicals than C-276.
- Weldability: Excellent, making it ideal for pharmaceutical vessels.
- Pitting: Extremely high critical pitting temperature.
While C-276 is the industry workhorse, C-22 is the upgrade. The increased Chromium content (approx. 22%) gives it significantly better resistance to oxidizing acid mixtures (like nitric acid) and ferric salts. It is the material of choice when contamination must be zero, such as in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Oxidizing Environment Superiority
Outperforms C-276 in oxidizing acids, wet chlorine, and mixtures containing nitric acid or oxidizing salts.
Pharmaceutical Standard
Due to its clean weldability and resistance to bio-film buildup, it is the standard for sterile processing equipment.
Stagnant Corrosion Resistance
Exceptional resistance to crevice corrosion, preventing leaks in gaskets, flanges, and sediment-prone areas.
