Haynes® High-Temperature Alloys
Premium Cobalt-based superalloys developed for the most demanding high-temperature applications. Known for excellent strength up to 1800°F (980°C) and superior resistance to sulfidation and wear.
Haynes 25 (L605)
A cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy that combines excellent high-temperature strength with good oxidation resistance up to 1800°F. It is also known for excellent resistance to metal galling.
Haynes 188
A cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy with a minute addition of lanthanum. It offers better oxidation resistance and thermal stability than Haynes 25, making it the standard for combustor liners.
Why Choose Cobalt-Based Alloys?
While Nickel-based alloys (like Inconel) are excellent, Cobalt-based alloys like Haynes 25 and 188 offer superior hot corrosion resistance in atmospheres containing sulfur (sulfidation) and molten salts.
They also maintain higher strength at elevated temperatures and are significantly more resistant to wear and galling, making them critical for gas turbine parts that slide or rotate against each other.
| Alloy Grade | UNS No. | Key Advantage | Common Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haynes 25 (Alloy L605) |
R30605 | Excellent mechanical strength and galling resistance. | Gas turbine rings, bearings, and industrial furnace parts. |
| Haynes 188 (Alloy 188) |
R30188 | Superior oxidation resistance and thermal stability due to Lanthanum addition. | Combustion cans, transition ducts, and flame holders. |
