Vascomax Maraging Steel

Vascomax® Maraging Steels

A series of carbon-free, nickel-cobalt-molybdenum steels known for possessing an unmatched combination of ultra-high strength, toughness, and dimensional stability during heat treatment.

Available Maraging Grades
Maraging 250 Vascomax Steel

Maraging 250

Vascomax® 250 (C-250) offers the highest fracture toughness of the maraging series. It is designed for applications requiring a balance of high strength (250 ksi) and resistance to shock loading.

Yield: 250 ksi High Toughness Missile Casings

What Makes Maraging Steel Special?

The term "Maraging" comes from "Martensitic Aging". Unlike conventional steels that are hardened by Carbon (which makes them brittle and prone to distortion), Maraging steels are virtually carbon-free.

They derive their immense strength from the precipitation of intermetallic compounds (Nickel, Cobalt, Molybdenum, Titanium) during a simple low-temperature heat treatment. This results in minimal dimensional change, allowing parts to be machined close to final size before hardening.

Grade Comparison: Yield Strength
Alloy Grade UNS No. Nominal Yield Strength Primary Characteristic
Maraging 250 K92890 250,000 psi (1724 MPa) Maximum toughness and ductility. Best resistance to crack propagation.
Maraging 300 K93120 300,000 psi (2068 MPa) The "General Purpose" aerospace grade. Excellent balance of strength and toughness.
Maraging 350 K93160 350,000 psi (2413 MPa) Maximum hardness and tensile strength. Slightly reduced toughness.
