Hastelloy Nickel Alloys

Hastelloy® Nickel Alloys

The premier family of nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloys designed for exceptional corrosion resistance. Hastelloy alloys are the standard for handling the most aggressive chemicals, including strong acids, wet chlorine, and chlorides.

C-Series: Versatile Corrosion Resistance
Hastelloy C-276 Alloy

Hastelloy C-276

The "go-to" alloy for universal corrosion resistance. It has resisted the formation of grain boundary precipitates better than any other alloy, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition.

Hastelloy C-22 Alloy

Hastelloy C-22

An upgrade to C-276 with higher Chromium. This gives it superior resistance to oxidizing chemicals and better overall resistance to localized pitting and crevice corrosion in stagnant environments.

Hastelloy B-2 Alloy

Hastelloy B-2

A nickel-molybdenum alloy with significant resistance to reducing environments, specifically Hydrochloric Acid (HCl). Note: It has poor corrosion resistance to oxidizing environments.

Hastelloy X High Temp Alloy

Hastelloy X

Unlike the C and B series, Hastelloy X is primarily a high-temperature alloy. It combines oxidation resistance, fabricability, and high-temperature strength, widely used in petrochemical furnaces and gas turbines.

Why Choose Hastelloy?

The Hastelloy family is defined by the high addition of Molybdenum (Mo). Molybdenum is the key element that provides resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing environments.

When chemical plants deal with "upset" conditions—where mixtures of acids, chlorides, and solvents occur unpredictably—Hastelloy C-276 and C-22 are often the only materials that survive.

Quick Selection Guide
Alloy UNS No. Best Environment Weakness
Hastelloy C-276 N10276 Universal. Excellent in wet chlorine, hypochlorite, and mixed acids. Slightly less resistant to strong oxidizers than C-22.
Hastelloy C-22 N06022 Superior in oxidizing environments (Nitric acid) and stagnant waters. More expensive than C-276.
Hastelloy B-2 N10665 Pure reducing acids: Hydrochloric acid at all concentrations. Fail rapidly in presence of ferric/cupric salts (oxidizers).
Hastelloy X N06002 High heat (2200°F). Oxidation and stress-corrosion cracking resistant. Not designed for aqueous corrosion like C-series.
